Small businesses, who don’t pay payroll tax, with total wage costs of less than $750,000 will be given $2000 for each new hire – if the employee stays in the role for at least 12 months. The Small Business Employment Incentive Grant Scheme will apply to new positions filled on or after July 1, and will cost taxpayers $27m over the next four years. Small businesses will also benefit from $14m in business support measures, including the Small Biz Connect program, small business advocacy services, and dispute resolution services. The bill, which is in front of the Parliament and yet to be passed, will also include the government’s on-going support of specialist advisors with language skills and multicultural small businesses in Western Sydney. Baird government’s move to incentivise NSW businesses follows the federal government’s 1.5 per cent small business tax cut, and $20,000 asset depreciation tax write offs, which was one of the main features of Treasurer Joe Hockey’s last budget.
