Océ releases alternative to inkjet digital

The two printers – Océ LightJet 430 and 500XL – are display graphics devices that are more than five times faster than the average wide format inkjet printer, have superior resolution and don’t require the same costly consumables.

Twice selected as the DPI Product of The Year, the Océ LightJet 430 and 500XL printers produce true photographic continuous tone quality using laser imaging and, because there is no ink or printheads, there is no grainy dot patterned image.

The Océ LightJet prints at an equivalent resolution of 4000dpi and at production speed of up to 45sqm per hour – far in excess of any wide format printer currently on the market.

Business development manager of Océ Display Graphics Systems, Mark Lunson, says that successful businesses have found that a single inkjet printer becomes insufficient for their needs and often purchase an additional wide format inkjet printer as a solution to this problem.

“However, the Océ LightJet offers a real alternative and challenges all previous return-on-investment models offered by inkjet manufacturers,” he says.

“The cost of production, the speed, and the quality, cannot be matched using existing inkjet technology.

“Display graphics producers are tempted by the low purchase price of an inkjet unit. What they often don’t realise until later is that the cost of ink and other consumables adds significantly to their monthly operating costs,” continues Lunson.

“And speed can be an issue. Output that would take an inkjet printer eight hours to produce, would be complete in just over an hour using the Océ LightJet. Most LightJet users enjoy a consumable cost that is less than half that used in output on an inkjet printer. So you could do the same job five to seven times faster and at far lower cost.”

Océ LightJet prints are ideal for applications such as backlit graphics, tradeshow displays, point-of-purchase posters, fine art photography and remote sensing images.

Additionally, the images are produced in RGB format, eliminating the frustrations often encountered with conventional CMYK inkjet printers and the resulting subsequent loss of colour space.
