Patterson victorious against Orel in PIAA

Printing Industries Association of Australia (PIAA) Board candidate Ron Patterson has beaten Finsbury Green’s Peter Orel for the Victoria spot by 33 votes to 28, with AIW Printing founder Peter Clark taking the Tasmanian seat from Mark Media’s Martin Guilliamse.

Patterson will return to a leading role in the Association four years after he was made redundant as Victoria state manager, assuming the position following Victoria member Kellie Northwood’s departure from the Board.

Patterson – seen as a polarising figure by some – was a major critic of the Board during the tumultuous period at the beginning of the year. One of the demands of the Members Action Group was that Patterson be returned to his job as Vic state manager.

“I’m happy to be elected to the Board and I would like to thank all the Victoria members who voted,” says Patterson.

“There is a lot of work to do and I am looking forward to getting my feet under the desk and having a look at how the PIAA is doing financially. I have been out of the action at the PIAA for some time now, but I am ready to get back into it.”

Clark will step into the Tasmanian Board position, following in the footsteps of predecessor Flying Colours owner Craig Pearce

Speaking with ProPrint, Clark says his long history in the print industry as a small and large business owner will assist his role in being a voice for Tassie printers.

“A lot of people I have spoken to are happy to have someone with my experience in the role. I have been a small and big business owner so I have been through the gamut and faced the same struggles some of our members are facing,” says Clark.

“The industry is facing challenges and is consolidating, as seen by the recent merger between PMP and IPMG, and these struggles and issues need to be addressed by Board members.”

ProPrint also spoke to PIAA chief executive Andrew Macaulay who says he is looking forward to adding much-needed diversity to the Board.

“The Board needs diversity and we have a Board with differing experiences and many great points of view,” says Macaulay.

“Patterson and Clark will strengthen the Board and I look forward to working with them. They both have a long history in print and have a lot to offer.”
