PIAA crisis: SGM up in the air

The proposed Special General Meeting called for by PIAA members aimed at grilling the Board is up in the air, following the president David Leach’s resignation.

The organiser of the SGM has collected more than the 50 required signatures for it to go ahead, but the original date of tomorrow (Thursday) is now in doubt.

ProPrint understands the vast majority of the signatures are from Queensland based members, furious about the sackings of their State staff, and about the lack of a Qld representative on the board following Susan Heaney’s resignation almost two months ago. Earlier in the month Qld member services manager Mel Ireland was told her contract would not be renewed while member services support officer Rebecca Sutherland had her contract terminated, effective immediately.

Some four fifths of the signatures for the Special General Meeting are from Qld, with ten per cent from NSW, and the rest from the other states.

The SGM was initially proposed to call the Board to account over the three year strategic plan and the mass staff departures over the past six months, with some proposing the entire Board should resign.
