PMP Chullora to close on Sunday

It’s the second blow for the print suburb, with the exit of Fairfax from its print site there over to its regional centres.

Ian Greenshields, spokesperson, PMP told Australian Printer, “The site will be closed on June 30, with around 120 people made redundant because of this. The usage of printed directories has fallen significantly in the last few years due to the new technology and because of this PMP has decided to close the plant. The Chullora site has been used for printing for the last twenty-three years and was acquired by PMP in 2004, and was used primarily to print directories.”

The Chullora site was established in 1983, and now the PMP Moorebank printing plant will carry out the Sensis directories print schedule.

The likely cost of the redundancies and press relocation is in the vicinity of $11.5m, which will be spent between June 2013 and October 2013.

PMP says trading conditions in Australia have continued to be tough for the company’s major clients as publishers and retailers continue to experience difficult market conditions. In response PMP is tightly controlling all operational and discretionary expenditure including capital expenditure.
