Print suppliers showing off new wares

Print suppliers are throwing open their doors in a series of open houses coming up in the next month, allowing printers to assess their offerings first hand and learn how new technology can benefit their business.

Australian label press manufacturer Rapid is hosting a preview of its new Memjet-powered XL220 unit tomorrow at 3-5pm in its Chatswood, NSW factory, including a barbeque.

This is the XL220’s first public outing and after the demonstration this first production model will be delivered to its NSW buyer.

General manager Nick Mansell will be on hand to answer printers’ questions and says he will reveal the company’s future directions.

The company says at a time when manufacturing in Australia is taking a hammering, Rapid is making digital label printing machines for the food, beverage and FMCG sectors – with the majority being exported overseas.

Walcar Graphics is showing off new machines with a mini expo in Sydney on April 3-4, featuring the introduction of the C941 five-colour printer from OKI to the Australian market.

Owner Wal Sadlo says: “It prints in CMYK as well as clear gloss or white – that’s an industry first, for Australia and the world. From a price point of view, there is nothing like it.”

He says the machine offers quality printing with LED technology that approaches the level of large production presses, but for a fraction of the cost.

The Mini Expo will take place from 10am to 6pm in the Synergy Room at the Waldorf Apartment Hotel in Rosehill.

EFI is putting on seminars about its workflow automation software in Melbourne on April 2, Sydney April 4 and Brisbane April 7.

The company says the events will help printers reduce touch points, increase speed to market, manage shorter runs, create smarter production and planning, and improve their bottom line.

Finally, the first Visual Impact trade show of the year is in Brisbane on April 10-12, showcasing the wares of visual graphics companies, which include signage, digital printing, engraving, routing, awards, vinyl application, design, airbrush, screenprinting and display solutions.

The organisers say the show is a good opportunity to see new products, meet leading suppliers, learn about new technologies, and network with like-minded individuals.
