PrintCity Alliance signs Copenhagen Communiqué

Around 825 global companies and organisations have already signed up to the Communiqué, including press manufacturer Heidelberg.

A spokesman for PrintCity, a strategic alliance covering the print, packaging and publishing industries, said its members were focused on promoting the value of print and achieving efficient levels of sustainability and energy.

He added that climate change has a direct relevance with the work PrintCity does to improve the environmental understanding and efficiency of the industry.

In October, the PrintCity Alliance said it would launch an initiative looking at the carbon footprint and energy use of the print and packaging industry.

Members in the alliance include Manroland, Océ, Eizo, UPM, Sun Chemical, Sappi, M-real, and project partner Kodak.

The companies have pledged to analyse and provide guidance on how to measure and use carbon footprints in order to improve process efficiency and environmental performance, with a ‘best practice’ guide set to published in mid-2010.

The Climate Change summit is due to be held in Copenhagen from 7-18 December. Other organisations can sign the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change by visiting the website.
