PrintCity Alliance signs Cancun Communique

The communiqués are meant to bring businesses towards an accord on how to tackle hazardous air pollutants, volatile organic compounds and greenhouse gasses, and have been signed by major global blue chip companies such as Coca Cola, Barclays, Cisco and Shell.

The Cancun Communiqué was circulated ahead of the meeting of the United Nations Conference of Parties 16 (COP16) in Cancun, lobbying governments to take key strategic actions locally, nationally and regionally to move the world close to the low-carbon transition that is required.

Rainer Kuhn, managing director of PrintCity, said: “PrintCity Alliance members, working in the graphic industry for print and packaging markets worldwide, are concerned about climate change and the way that industries like ours respond to minimise the impact for future generations.

“Our members individually and working together support the aims of the Cancun Communiqué. We put our name to the document to improve the wider understanding of the issues that face us all across the packaging, commercial and publishing sectors in the graphic industry.”

The PrintCity Alliance supports the use of paper and boards as sustainable resources, especially when compared to electronic media.

The alliance is a cross-industry group that includes equipment, paper and software vendors such as Manroland, Fujifilm, Océ and UPM.

Last year, the alliance signed the Copenhagen Communiqué on Climate Change in the lead-up to the 15th United Nations Climate Change Conference.
