Web2print survey will look at who’s onboard

The PIAA is launching an industry survey to look at the use and success of web2print (W2P) technology in Australia. The survey is part of the PIAA’s ongoing mission to provide printers with information and support to help them cope with structural change. Printers are invited to take part online, with results closing on Friday September 19. Bill Healey, CEO of the association, says it is important to understand how businesses are going with taking on W2P as it is a major driver of the industry’s transformation.

He says the survey will help determine how the industry is managing the transition, and what assistance would be helpful to printers. He says, “Anecdotal feedback suggests that there has been some confusion around W2P and the understanding of its capabilities, implementation, cost and integration into existing MIS infrastructure. “The results of this survey and subsequent report will help identify the use and perceptions of W2P, the various models being used, the extent of their integration and return on investment. It will illustrate both the successes and failures.” Healey says W2P includes more than an online ordering application, but can include capabilities for estimating, marketing, brand and document management as well as online stock ordering and inventory management, cost analysis and calculating conversion rates. The survey will form part of a report on W2P including comprehensive information on platforms, an overview of the technology, implementation styles, a comparison with previous data, case studies and tips for the future. Once the analysis is complete, a report will be available to PIAA members in late October. The members will receive the full report, with an executive summary to be made available to others. Printers can access the survey online.
