The award is one of three which encourage and reward printing industry
graduates. In a joint announcement LIA Federal President Greg Grace and Printing
Industries National President, Peter Lane said an agreement had been reached, which will expand the existing
relationship between the two organisations.
The move will further consolidate Printing Industries and LIA's
mutual commitment to recognise the potential leadership talent that comes
through the ranks of TAFE graduates across Australia.
To be known as the LIA – Printing Industries, Future Leaders
Award, it will be presented for the first time under Printing Industries
auspices at the Gala Dinner of the inaugural Victorian PICA awards and the 19th
Biennial Conference of the LIA at the Park Hyatt, Melbourne on 19 October 2007.
Greg Grace said the Institute was very happy to have expanded its
relationship with Printing Industries.
"This will further enhance our growing relationship and spread the word
more broadly, that there are opportunities for young (and not so young) people
graduating from TAFE to stay in the industry and become the future leaders," he
said.
Peter Lane said the joint venture was the first of its type for the association
although it does sponsor various state based TAFE activities.
"Over the years we have supported the LIA in many ways, including
involving and presenting their state based awards during our major industry
events, such as the PICA Awards. We have been very impressed by their judging
methodology, enthusiasm and support for education in our industry," he said.
"The concept of an award that recognises the individual's potential to
become an industry leader fits very strongly with Printing Industries
philosophy. As the peak employer organisation, we have a role in encouraging
our members to keep the brightest and best in the industry and we are hopeful
that our sponsorship of the Future Leaders Award will contribute to achieving
that aim."
The Future Leaders Award is made every two years and comprises an all
expenses paid educational visit to either drupa or Ipex in the year following
its presentation.
