Prism Grafix heralds new book technology

Australia, says the company, breaks new ground in the fact that it is the first such machine to be introduced to the printing and bookbinding industry worldwide.

This machine, apart from its normal function of edge gilding, has the capability of printing on three sides of a book, or blocks of paper, for short or medium runs. For longer runs, it has the capability of flexographic printing and colour tinting, coupled with a drier for instant drying

Fore edge printing is particularly interesting for those looking to advertise on the sides of directories, magazines, directories and school books.

According to Prism Grafix, fore edge tinting is used in enhancing the appeal of magazines, annual reports and magazines with large coverage of a solid colour. The edges can be tinted using the same shade of ink as that on the cover.

Traditional edge gilding in gold and silver was used in early days to protect exclusive book edges from turning yellow with time. Today it is used to more enhance the appearance of hard and soft case bound books, Holy books, diaries and desk pads.

Prism Grafix says all these services are available at a fraction of the cost of producing them manually or on semi automatic machines, and at more than four times the speed.

The company says the new technology is but the first step in its commitment along with printing partners, CJ King, to bring back quality hard case bookbinding to Australian shores from South East Asia.
