Q&A: Kellie Northwood, Geon

The sustainability and communications manager at Geon knows her stuff, with a background spanning ad agencies, Moore and Finsbury Green. But her favourite prints are still hand-finished and her attention to colour management hasn’t always been spot-on.

Which piece of print are you most proud of?

My six- and four-year-olds’ hand prints.

What’s one of the biggest stuff-ups you’ve made in your career?

Ordering and approving a proof with the wrong PMS for a national brand launch. It was all printed with the incorrect red. Company still using incorrect PMS today.

What do you like most about being in print?

Its guts. The industry is fiercely competitive and highly passionate. Every person working in print knows how tough you need to be to last – there are no easy rides in this game.

If you didn’t work in print, what would you be doing?

Driving people I love mad with irrelevant emails and text messages.

Reveal a secret talent that you have.

I can make a very loud popping sound with my bottom lip.

If your house was on fire, what three things would you rescue?

iPhone, Blackberry and wallet – in that order.

How do you like to unwind?

Red wine, old Hollywood movies and nanna naps.

What is the best piece of advice anyone has ever given you?

Look, listen and learn (and do it all while listening to Van ‘the Man’ Morrison).

What did you want to be when you grew up?

A pediatrician – until I realised children had blood too.

Have you ever been said you resemble a famous person?

Once – Britney Spears, but I don’t think it was supposed to be complimentary.
