Queensland Government invests in Goprint

Schwarten revealed the decision of the Queensland State Cabinet Budget Review Committee (CBR), to approve the multi-million dollar investment in Goprint, at an Estimates Committee meeting this month.

“The Queensland Government will invest more than $4 million to upgrade some of the printing equipment at Goprint,” says Schwarten.

“The equipment being purchased will replace existing presses and will ensure that reserve services, for example Hansard, budget papers and CMC reports, are able to be produced,” he says.

Goprint, a Queensland Government owned business, has been operating with antiquated printing technology for many years now. Some of the company’s presses are 22-years-old, slow and frequently prone to mechanical problems.

Schwarten says there is a view in the printing industry that the Queensland Government should not be in the printing industry and should privatise Goprint. However, he disagrees with this view. “This is not my view, nor the view of the Government,” he says. “Therefore, we will continue to make capital investment in Goprint, where necessary, to ensure it can continue to operate in an effective and efficient manner,” says Schwarten.
