Speed and efficiency were uppermost on Rapid Labels’ wishlist when it came to choosing its latest press installation, an HP Indigo WS6600, which it says is now up and running ready for the labelling rush before the Christmas silly season.

David Power, general manager of the Melbourne-based self-adhesive label outfit, says the company considered a variety of presses to see where the market was at, including inkjet alternatives, before settling on the WS6600. Rapid Labels was previously rolling out work on an HP WS4500; Power says upgrading to a faster machine will decrease turnaround times in a competitive market – the WS6600 runs at up to 98 feet per minute in four-colour mode, 130fpm in enhanced productivity mode and flies at 196fpm in one or two-colour mode. The press also offers HP’s signature Indigo white ink and boasts a Green Leaf Mark for sustainability from certification company Intertek. Power offers high praise for the machine’s installation by Australian distributor Currie Group. He says, “It was the best install that we have ever done. The new press went in on a Thursday and we were up and running on Monday. Phil Watt and the guys from Currie Group worked all weekend to get it ready, it was magnificent – especially for a busy time of year.” New press in, old press out, the company are now primed for December’s high volumes, with the WS6600 joining a Mark Andy P7 and Gidue M5 conventional press across its three Bayswater sites.
