Red Paper Group emerges from Detagna

The group, formed in 2001, now comprises the paper merchanting businesses of Raleigh Paper and Edwards Dunlop Paper in Australia, and BJ Ball Papers in New Zealand.

Red is an anagram taken from the merchant companies Raleigh Paper and Edwards Dunlop Paper. The new group logo draws from BJ Ball’s well known paper dart.

Both Australian merchants will continue to operate independently in addressing the printing industry. BJ Ball will operate in the New Zealand market without change.

Elements of the group name will be selectively utilised in some environments. One such segment is the creative sector. The group will draw from the Red badge to provide a combined service to the Australian graphic arts community. This service will be known as RedConnect, a highly focused group promotions unit supporting the brands and businesses of both Raleigh Paper and Edwards Dunlop Paper. RedConnect’s key contacts in the creative sector are primarily advertising agencies and graphic designers.

Raleigh Paper and Edwards Dunlop Paper will staff and resource RedConnect which will organise the promotional activity and specification sales for the group’s two paper merchants in Australia. The company says the friendly faces will be the same but with the paper industry’s broadest product offer at hand.

The Red initiative coincides with a reinvigorating period in the group’s development under the leadership of new managing director Tony Dragicevich. The appointments of Gordon Anthonisz to the role of general manager Edwards Dunlop Paper and Andrew Bull as chief executive BJ Ball Papers New Zealand followed shortly thereafter. Other recent changes are the appointment of former WC Penfolds executive Craig Flavell to head up the Office Products Division and Les Perrett will fill the new position of group marketing manager. Graeme Ross reassumes the position of general manager Raleigh Paper.

This senior management line-up provides Red Paper Group with some of the most experienced paper people in the industry, which the company says should ensure a bright future for the group.
