Spicers finds new way to sell paper with ‘warehouse on wheels’

The Spicers Xpress van has started making daily runs to parts of Sydney to see if small and medium-sized printers need to stock up on digital paper and consumables.

Emerging business manager Rohan Dean said it wouldn't be long before a second Sydney van was added and the concept introduced to other cities.

"This market has a growing presence of digital equipment and we thought that we could better deliver our digital papers in the speed of on-demand via a mobile warehouse," he told ProPrint.

"We initially underestimated the ability of the van to upsell and not only just sell items out of the van’s stock. So it creates orders as well that can be delivered next day or on our bulk trucks if it’s pallet lots."

A text messaging alert system will soon be added, so customers can prepare their orders before the van arrives.

Spicers' New Zealand business was the first to introduce a sales van.
