The spectral measurement device, which can be used for pre-press and press-side applications, is smaller than its predecessors and equipped with a high-resolution colour display.

It uses LED technology to provide D50 illumination and features a new, redesigned measuring head, which enables it to read reliable values on substrates.

The device can be used for calculating density values for CMYK and spot colours, as well as dot gain, dot area, grey balance and print contrast. It is available in three models: basic, featuring essential density functions; advanced, with extended densitometry functions, colorimetry and a colour library; and the flagship premium device.

Users can upgrade from the basic model by uploading software post-purchase.

Techkon managing director Albin Baranauskas said: “The LED technology featured on the SpectroDens is very important because the new ISO 3664 standard says the light source for viewing printed sheets should be as close to D50 as possible.”

Baranauskas said pricing for the new SpectroDens will be confirmed after Drupa.

Techkon has also launched an iPhone App that measures the register deviations of printing presses and is a successor to its discontinued register measuring system RMS 910. Printers can calculate deviations in X and Y direction based on a selected reference colour by taking a snap shop with their iPhone camera.
