The year ahead: Karen Goldsmith, GAMAA

At the biennial GAMAA Retreat in November 2008, the association reinforced its commitment to continue to invest funds and resources to support and promote a sustainable industry. GAMAA’s activities in 2010 will continue to focus on this objective.

For the seventh year, GAMAA will run its landmark Leadership Education Workshop series. These workshops are developed through consultation with the industry and we are hosting focus groups to determine topics for 2010.

In February, we will announce the successful applicants for the 2010 GAMAA Leadership Scholarship and launch the 2010 GAMAA Leadership Workshop Programme.

GAMAA also works closely with other industry associations. The PrintEx11 Board has now been formed with Printing Industries and pre-planning for the event will commence this month. And we will carry on with our support for the Sustainable Print Alliance.

GAMAA has close ties to its counterparts in Europe and the US. I will continue to work with the executive directors of these associations in order to keep abreast of trends and activities in other markets.

With Ipex the next major tradeshow for our industry, I will be interested to see how this event fares in light of the global financial crisis (GFC).

Women in Print is another initiative GAMAA supports and again in 2010 I will be the NSW Patron for this important event, which continues to gather momentum. Women in Print is just one of a number of industry events and activities that GAMAA sponsors on an annual basis.

All of these activities feed back into the GAMAA directive to work towards a healthy and sustainable industry. As Australia moves out of the grip of the GFC we look forward to a prosperous and exciting new year.
