Trio Bookbinders celebrates second Wohlenberg installation

The new Wohlenberg Champion 8000 “s” perfect binding line, installed in June 04, includes 20 model 7011 feeders, interchangeable hot melt glue tanks, rotary cover feeder, inline conveyor system, inline model 75i three knife trimmer, and OMG Cucciolo stacker. It has a maximum speed of 8000 books per hour and virtually duplicates the Wohlenberg Master 7000 perfect binding line already installed by Trio only last year.

The Wohlenberg line installed last year was the first in Australia with PUR gluing technology and this has helped fuel the strong growth in this part of Trio’s business.

Robin Bell, Trio Bookbinders managing director, says the decision to purchase the machines was borne out of a simple need – to fill the increasing demand for work. He says what his company really needed was a machine that they could bind on without any hassles, and he can do that on the Wohlenberg.

Rayne Simpson, CPI national product manager for print finishing, says the Wohlenberg lines offer added value to binders like Trio Bookbinders, with an array of time-and labour-saving features.

“If a customer wanted a standard perfect binder, there are plenty of options out there. What we can offer them is added value. For example, when binding books with gatefold covers, we can trim the book foredge inline before applying the cover, saving a lot of time and money compared to the double production pass necessary otherwise,” says Simpson.

“We also offer the inline cover folder feeder, which can now handle gatefold covers up to one metre in width, creasing and folding them in line, also saving a lot of time. Along with that, the PUR gluing system, as well as the stacker and bundler, all offer significant value adds to the system.”
