Two left in race for Lotsa

The list of potential buyers in line to purchase North Queensland’s Lotsa Print has now been whittled down to just two parties, according to owner Peter Martin.

Lotsa has two production sites in Far North Queensland; one in Cairns and one in Port Douglas. The Port Douglas site services digital and offset, while the Cairns site focuses on digital.

Speaking to Australian Printer, Martin says, “It is now down to two people, it just one of those frustrating periods of a sale where everyone is making decisions, coming back and talking things over at the moment.

“Me being away travelling has not helped too much, it is just that time of the year where it is busy.”

Martin could not give away details of the parties still in contention, however in August, out of the five interested parties, he said three were family-owned businesses and two were large companies.

The veteran printer has previously told Australian Printer he would ideally like to sell to a family business for a price of $1.85m.

This figure includes a workforce of 33 staff, and a gamut of pre-press, offset, digital, wide format, and finishing equipment.

Martin left Sydney to start fresh in sunny North Queensland 25 years ago, he says plenty of work has been coming through the door in the lead up to the print industry’s boom period.

“Business has been good for us in November and has come back very strong, we are running flat out at the moment,” he says. “It is the silly season again so we expect a crazy run up to Christmas.”

Martin will be retiring following the sale of Lotsa which was initially intended to be finalised by October.  He says this is now likely to occur by January.
