Vic PIAA members step forward

The PIAA has received a couple of Victorian nominations in the upcoming board election just days after PIAA Victorian board representative Kellie Northwood revealed she would not reapply for her position.

Northwood issued a statement on September 15 – the same day nominations for the PIAA board closed – confirming her intention to not nominate due to work commitments as executive director of Two Sides Australia (TSA) and chief executive of the Australasian Catalogue Association (ACA).

“It is with some regret that I am stepping down from the PIAA board position, however based on several commitments I did not feel I could provide the commitment required,” Northwood says.

“I wish the board all the very best in the year ahead and thank those who have supported me, ACA and TSA over the past period, I have met a lot of wonderful people and enjoyed learning more about our passionate and dedicated industry.”

The clock was ticking for the PIAA board to find a Victorian replacement to ensure their name will be listed on the election ballot paper when the ballot opens for members on September 29.

Speaking to Australian Printer, PIAA president Kieran May confirms he has received nominations from Victoria, but cannot confirm who they are until the Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) checks their eligibility.

He explains, “The AEC will go through the nominations to see if they have been completed correctly, then they will go through a check to see if the company and individual are eligible.

“If there is more than one person eligible there will be a ballot run by the AEC in Victoria, and if there is only one person eligible then the AEC will confirm that person.”

May says a list of the board nominations is expected to be finalised by the AEC next week, which will issue an announcement shortly after.
