Victorian printers strike gold at PICA awards

Other gold medal winners included Courtney, Ego Print, Finsbury Green, Labelhouse, Detmold Flexibles, Hannanprint Victoria, Whites Printers & Stationers and Print Impressions. Avon Graphics took out the gold for Embellishment, while David Lancashire Design won the Design category.

The Heidelberg Award for Excellence in Craft went to Adams Print for Indigenous Art at the ANU. Michael Warshall, renowned Melbourne photographer and now a regular gold medal winner at the PICA Awards through his digital printing company, Picpress, was clearly delighted to take out the Currie Group Award.

The Dalton Paper Environmental Award went to multiple gold medal winner Bambra Press while Murray Betts Group won the Spicers Paper Award for their “Ra Ra” brochure (uncoated).

The judges once again presented a special Award for a job which stood out to them as the ultimate expression of print – this year, it went to Courtney for The Mossgreen Story.

The ceremony also featured a presentation by Ray Keen National Treasure of Printing Industries to PICA Victoria Chairman, Trevor Hone, of a Life Membership of Printing Industries, an honour bestowed just nine times in the organisation’s 130 year history.

According to Printing Industries the night was a reflection on the challenges and highlights of the year past. This included a heartfelt tribute to the late Jim Atkinson who, as National President of Printing Industries, would have himself been addressing the gathering were it not for his untimely passing just weeks ago.
