Viral sketch of Queen Elizabeth II printed for charity

This story first appeared in Print Week.

A sketch of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip sitting with one of the Queen’s corgis on a picnic rug which went viral after Her Majesty’s passing has been printed over 2,000 times in the last five days for a UK-based children’s charity.

The illustration was created by artist Kerri Cunningham and shows the Queen reunited with Prince Philip above the words “Hello again Lilibet”, the Queen’s childhood nickname.

UK printer, THEMPC, which is based in Basingstoke took on the job of printing the sketch after the business’s co-owner Emma Marsh found the drawing – along with a plea for help to have it printed – on Instagram, UK-based printing industry publication Print Week reports.

Cunningham told Print Week she received a “high volume” of requests from people wanting to buy the sketch.

“I kept getting lovely emails from people asking if they could buy the sketch. The volume of emails was huge but it didn’t feel right to make a profit from something I only ever intended as a mark of respect,” Cunningham told Print Week.

“Then a family member mentioned the Queen had been a patron of the NSPCC until she was 90 and seeing as my husband and I have three young children, it felt right to raise money for such a good cause.”

It was at this time Cunningham put out the call for help on Instagram.

Emma Marsh and her husband Paul Marsh co-own THEMPC and they took up the task and worked with the company’s development team to build a website for the print, print samples and agree on the products to be sold.

Orders a processed online and sent directly to THEMPC’s print room via the company’s own on-demand printing software, SwagOnline, which it developed in-house.

Media Weeks reports the charity prints are then printed on a Canon ImagePress C810 colour laser printer on Fedrigoni Stucco Old Mill 280gsm paper.
