Wollongong pre-press apprentice wins at WorldSkills competition

Nathan Smith, 21, topped the pre-press category after designing a logo, poster and skate deck for a female skateboarding brand.

He said the three-day challenge had taught him how to handle a brief and develop clear ideas for a target market.

Smith (pictured) is in the third year of a four-year apprenticeship and works at Colour Print Solutions.

He said he was surprised and delighted to take out the gold medal, and thought it would be a good thing to put on his resume.

However, Smith’s one regret was that while most categories would be represented at this year’s national final, pre-press wouldn’t be one of them.

WorldSkills is a competition that aims to nurture the skills of Australia’s youth by giving them an opportunity to showcase their talent.
