Offset Alpine almost took a clean sweep of the web offset categories, winning gold in the ‘Web offset coated stock off-line finished’, ‘Web offset publications with a cover price’, and ‘Web offset un-coated stock’ categories.

The awards were held at a dinner ceremony at the Sydney Convention and Exhibition Centre’s Parkside Ballroom, presented by television stars Larry Emdur and Gorgi Coghlan, and featured entertainment from magician Matt Hollywood.
Along with the category awards, there were three sponsor awards: the Heidelberg Australia Awards, the PaperlinX Awards and the Currie Group Award.
Heidelberg Australia managing director Andy Vels Jensen gave a storming speech, mixing laughs with hard truths as he said: “I have this awkward feeling that the rest of the Australian economy forgot to take us along for the ride on the train called ‘recovery’.
“The world has changed but we, as an industry, have not changed with it. I believed the recession would and should have forced change upon us, but apparently not,” said Vels Jensen.
“We continue to come across companies who are in print for the sake of selling, not for profitability,” he added.

The ‘Heidelberg Award for excellence in craft’ was won by Adams Print for its gold-winning entry in the ‘Calendars’ category.
Platypus also took out the ‘PaperlinX Award for outstanding excellence in printing’ for its gold-winning entry in the ‘One, Two and Three Colour Printing’ category.
The other sponsors award went to Picpress, which took out the ‘Currie Group Graphics Award’ for its gold-winning entry in the ‘Limited Editions’ category.
Geon was the other multiple award winner, with golds in the ‘Die-cut presentation folders’ and ‘Booklets, catalogues and magazines saddle-stitched’ categories.
National Print Awards chairman John Wanless said at the ceremony: “The quality demonstrated in the entries received in those competitions, and the difficulty reported by judges in every state as well as by our national judging panel, proves once again that those standards are continually being lifted and that the quality achieved by Australian printers is the equal of that achieved anywhere in the world.”
No gold medal was awarded in the Art Reproductions, Security Printing, Flexographic Printing, Digital Printing Inkjet, and Innovation categories.
