APP chief number two in paper

Wijaya sits on top of the paper behemoth that supplies a significant amount of paper into the Australian market, in fact it is likely that more paper used in Australian sheetfed offset printing comes from APP than any other company.

Under Wijaya’s chairmanship APP has left its serious financial difficulties of a decade ago well behind, and continues to expand. Its biggest issues in more recent times have been its ongoing battles with ill-informed environmental groups.

In its fifth year, the RISI (leading information provider for the forest products industry) Top 50 Power List details the 50 people, organisations, and developments that have been influential in shaping the course of the global pulp and paper industry over the year.

The list is based on nominations from RISI’s editors, engineers and economists, as well as from professionals and experts from within the industry.

This year, John Williams, president and ceo of North American outfit Domtar, was named number one most influential person, particualry for his environmental record, was Wijaya number two, with John Faraci, chairman and CEO of International Paper in third spot.
