Aussie trio invest in Kodak Achieve

With a rise in printers making the switch to thermal platesetters, three Aussie printers have chosen the Kodak Achieve Platesetter for their pre-press environment.

NSW drink coaster printer Coaster Kings, Limehouse printers in the Sunshine Coast, and Canberra’s Impress Printers have all installed the system.

Speaking to Australian Printer, Impress director Terry Ward says disappointing service with previous CTP systems pushed him to look elsewhere.

“I was fed up with previous CTP equipment we had,” Ward explains. “I was waiting weeks to get any service for the equipment, I just cannot afford to be down for that long.”

Kodak’s guarantee of service, and references from other Kodak customers, swayed Ward’s decision to install the Achieve at the Impress site four months ago.

“Since having it installed production is flowing smoothly, the cost of plates has reduced, plus it is cleaner and greener,” he says. “The service has been really good from Kodak and I cannot see any reason why that service will not continue on.”

A green accredited printer in operation for 18 years, Coaster Kings was most drawn to the energy savings offered by the Achieve, which Kodak claims can offer a 40 per cent reduction in energy usage.

Coaster Kings was also looking to improve production times and print quality, which it reports has improved significantly with the install of Achieve.

Prepress manager Rikki-Lee Calnan says, “We are now doing a week’s worth of production in just a few hours. The time savings are enormous and given the systems ease of use we are very excited about the overall benefits this is delivering to our operations.”

Limehouse says the Achieve has helped the business save money and space, eliminate chemistry, reduce plate processor costs and waste, as well as reducing water wastage.

Kodak Australia managing director Anthony Harvey adds, “Customers want efficient use of their time, power, space, people and finances.

“Achieve and our full range of advanced CTP machines offer some of the most reliable, power efficient, productive, cost effective, and highest quality equipment in the market.”
