Canon launches new A2 wide format printer

Steven Brown, production printing systems group manager for
Canon Australia says, "The launch of this new printer further underpins
our commitment to the large format sector. Canon's customer-centric approach
helps us ensure the imagePROGRAF iPF5100 suits the market's needs. The
iPF5100's predecessor, the imagePROGRAF iPF5000, set a benchmark for
high-quality colour large format printing that hasn't been surpassed by our
competitors. With the release of the iPF5100, Canon has further raised the bar
to deliver unparalleled quality for customers."

Using twelve LUCIA inks, including red, green, blue and two
shades of grey, offers a wider colour gamut, which is well balanced with clear
colours and smooth gradation. The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF5100 incorporates four
new inks: black, matte black, grey and photo grey to further enhance print
quality. The inks ensure less graininess, and reduce bronzing, which can be
caused by diffused light reflection.

The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF5100 comes with Canon's next
generation colour management technology, Kyuanos, which has an ambient
light-adjustment function that can be set by either selecting a preset
environment or by entering a colour temperature to automatically balance the
colour for the display environment. This
minimises differences in the way colours appear due to the different lighting
conditions that prints are displayed in.

The imagePROGRAF iPF5100 has a new colour calibration tool
that adjusts colour differences caused by ageing, individual print heads, or
between different printers, for more stable printing. Using a precise
multi-sensor, accurate colour calibration (average delta E: 2.0 or less) is achieved
in around 10 minutes.

The imagePROGRAF iPF5100 has a twin, high-density print head
that improves print speed and durability, due to the 30,720 nozzles in two 1"
print heads. By incorporating FINE (Full-photolithography Inkjet Nozzle
Engineering) technology, 4-pl (picolitre) ink droplets ensure delicate colour
gradation, high-definition and accuracy. The imagePROGRAF iPF5100's L-COA
processor performs the high-speed processing of 12-ink image data and
simultaneously controls the operation of the printer and the dual high-density
print head system. The printer also features automatic clogged nozzle detection
to help reduce wear-and-tear on the print heads, and ensure excellent print
quality throughout its long life.

The imagePROGRAF iPF5100 comes with a range of features to
ensure that set-up and operation are as simple as possible. These include image
input and selection with the imagePROGRAF Front-Access, which communicates with
other applications, enhanced user support and a stronger link between drivers,
software and manuals. Canon's new high quality poster creating software,
PosterArtist 2007, is also included.

PosterArtist 2007 includes an Auto Design feature, where
users simply designate images to be incorporated into a poster, and the
PosterArtist automatically incorporates the images to create
professional-looking posters for immediate use. The Auto Design feature
significantly cuts down on the time it takes to go from design to output. Also
PosterArtist 2007 allows users to take advantage of Kyuanos technology for
advanced colour management of their poster output from Canon 12-ink models, to
be viewed favorably under various light sources. A template filtering feature
allows users to source and apply a pre-loaded template quickly and easily from
a library of hundreds of templates.

The Canon imagePROGRAF iPF5100 large format printer will be
available in November.
