CMYKhub installs UV press at new Perth site

CMYKhub has doubled its Perth capacity and completed a national switch to UV with the install of a new eight colour offset press at its new Perth hub yesterday.

Chief executive Clive Denholm says the A1 Ryobi 928P, an upgrade from the five colour Ryobi 920 installed only last May, will slash turnaround times for WA printers and make them more competitive.

“Being able to offer our WA-based resellers UV will be great. Instant drying on coated and uncoated paper really helps with fast turnaround,” he says.

Denholm, in Perth for the install, says having eight colours means work is finished straight off the press instead of having to print it twice, doubling capacity and shortening print time.

“The perfecting makes a big difference in productivity, we have finished work in one pass,” he says.

The install coincides with the trade printer’s move to a new purpose-built 1200sqm facility in the light industrial suburb of Midvale in Perth’s east.

“We moved to a new premises to improve the working environment,” Denholm says.

“It is a standalone factory with epoxy floor, air-conditioning, and improved networking making it a great place to work.”

Denholm says the bigger and better site with new kit will allow the Perth hub to hire new staff next year.

Plugging in the 928P completes CMYKhub’s long term plan to convert all its big offset presses to UV capable machines so it can offer fast delivery to its time conscious printer clients and offer more services nationwide.

UV technology allows the trade printer to offer next-day despatch on key items, which it says will add value to its services and allow resellers to charge a premium for fast turnaround.

Most major offset manufacturers are pushing UV technology, with the KBA Rapida series having several sales this year and Komori claiming 75 per cent of its worldwide offset press sales are UV capable.

The CYMKhub install follows three Ryobi UV offset buys at PrintEx11 and the past two PacPrints, and a Komori G840P installed at its Melbourne factory early last year.

Denholm says his recent preference for Ryobi is because the manufacturer is ‘always innovating’.

“Ryobi make very reliable printing equipment and are continuing to innovate and improve press design,” he says.

The press includes automatic plate changing, cleaning and presetting; and high-speed printing mechanisms to improve speed and efficiency.

The 928P joins a four colour A3 Ryobi offset press the company uses for envelope printing.

Denholm says the Perth operation has smoothly integrated the business of WA trade printer Top Print CMYKhub bought last year, and has grown it by offering more services.

“We work hard to meet client expectations and that is reflected in our growth to allow us to upgrade our equipment,” he says.

“Resellers like that we offer great service and don’t compete with them.”
