CMYKhub into wide format

Australia’s biggest trade printer CMYKhub has entered the wide format market with production beginning in three states from September.

The company is installing a slate of new machinery across its national operations and will be the first of the big four trade printers to offer a comprehensive product range.

Managing director Trent Nankervis says production will being in Melbourne, Sydney, and Perth in early September, and Brisbane once CMYKhub moves factories over Christmas.

While wide format has been a growth area for years, Nankervis says it is only now with new technology that it is viable for a large-scale trade printer like his company.

“We have been deliberate in waiting for the right time to provide wide format, as the shift in technology provides more consistency and quality required to be in the wholesale space,” he says.

“The challenge with all wide format manufacture is delivery, which is why it is imperative to manufacture on the east and west coast. Customers will have the advantage of offering their national clients a faster, more consistent product nationally.”

CMYKhub will start with four HP Latex 360 roll-to-roll printers, Agfa Jeti Mira and Anapurna 2540i flatbeds bought at PrintEx, with another Mira and some bigger HP kit on order.

It will also install Esko cutting tables, laminators, welders, eyelet machines and other sundry equipment in each site.

Nankervis hopes the operation will be supplementary to CMYKhb’s core offset products and achieve similar sales to its digital production in the future.

“Our main goal with wide format is to offer centralised order processing with local production while keeping colour and delivery standards to equivalent of our digital and offset production,” he says.

“We chose to go down this path due to suggestions from customers who wanted better service and more consistent quality at good value like the other products we currently produce.

“The point of difference we are most excited about is that it will produce locally in our four plants with same quality output.

“This means wide format artwork can be flight checked, nested and scheduled centrally then different quantities can be produced in each state reducing the turnaround times to market and reduce freight issues and costs.

“We have also teamed up with a very well-known supplier of display systems and are very confident in being able to supply an exceptional quality products.”

Nankervis says the plan has been well-received by trade customers, with multiple printers picking up the phone in every state to inquire about the service.

"We want to work even closer with resellers in the next year. Our new equipment and increased product range will really assist in helping to grow customers’ sales,” he says.

“Our future depends on us being able to listen to and support our resellers to become more profitable and relevant in the ever-changing print market.

"Over this year, we plan to provide better product information and training, a new web interface and work even harder to ensure the resellers that trust CMYKhub to be their print partner have an advantage in the market.”
