Fuller told Australian Printer while the majority of Greenloch staff were already made redundant when Focus Press finalised the acquisition, he has re-hired 31 former Greenloch employees. Former Greenloch sales manager Jason James has been appointed General Manager of the new business, which will be known as Focus Press City.
Fuller says, “The purchase was part of our strategic plan and the Greenloch operation was a well equipped print operation, which fit well with the culture and style of our business.”
He continues, “It has added to our capabilities and has made a whole new customer base available to us. While we have had to find them our selves the former Greenloch customers we have contacted have given us a lot of positive feedback.”
The equipment involved in the purchase included three presses, a Komori 540 five colour, a Komori 628 six colour and a Komori 528 five colour as well as a number of MBO folding machines, two guillotines and a collator stitcher trimmer.
Fuller says the new facility will adhere to the same environmental standards as Focus Press’ other operations with the newly purchased presses to be alcohol free within two months. He adds a waste management stream is already up and running and staff have recently completed sustainability and workflow management training.
He says, “We have a very robust system and maintenance team so we are able to make purchases like this even in tough times. We are making significant changes to the way the operation was previously run and I expect to be able to add at least $200,000 to the bottom line immediately, simply by using these methods.”
Fuller adds that the new facility boasts a neat, modern building that is easy to completely lock down, which Fuller says will now enable Focus Press to undertake security printing.
This is the second acquisition by Focus Press in 12 months with the company picking up the Sydney operation of Fast Proof in August last year.
