Gases cause chemical explosion at DS Chemport

A small explosion broke out at the DS Chemport Campbellfield factory after an unknown gas was emitted from a mixing pot of chemicals which became overheated and reacted.

A statement by DS Chemport says, '[We] can confirm that a chemical reaction/machinery malfunction occurred on site Wednesday June 21 resulting in a haze of smoke. There was no fire caused by this reaction. The necessary authorities were contacted to ensure safety of the site and surrounding areas. DS Chemport continues to be fully operational.'

The Melbourne Fire Brigade (MFB) says gas was released at the rear of the building and travelled onto the street.
