Gloomy week as two printers declare insolvency

Two Sydney print companies Rotary Offset Press and Halagraphics declared insolvency this week with their respective assets being handled by printer Dominion.

The assets of both companies are being handled by Dominion Group’s Terry Fitzpatrick with the possibility of an auction in the future.

Fitzpatrick says he is in ‘early stages of going through assets’ but cannot confirm when the list of major items will be made available for auction. He says the companies are currently ‘finalising matters on site’ before the assets will be offered to the public.

“At this stage our role is done until a decision is reached by the companies, but we are expecting a certain outcome,” says Fitzpatrick.

Rotary Offset Press (ROP), based in Homebush West has been trading for 55 years, and possesses a gamut of machinery including the Heidelberg Speedmaster 102CD 4 Colour, Baker Perkins 4 Colour Web Press, finishing equipment such as Muller Martini and MBO folders, and an in-house integrated CtP.

Launched in 1960, ROP is a second-generation owned printer and lithographer, employing 50 staff and is headed by managing director Robert John Tarasov who took over from his father Stan Tarasov.

The business was unavailable for comment on what will happen to the 50 staff members, and its website has been stripped down only listing contacts from Co Cordis Chartered Accountants, who are handling the insolvency.

Pre-media and graphic art designer Halagraphics also collapsed into insolvency this week and is set to auction off major items through Dominion. The company had been in business for 18 years, also residing in Sydney’s Homebush.

Halagraphics employs four people and generates an annual income upwards of $600,000, and it is also unknown whether its staff will be made redundant.

It is believed the two businesses were jointly operated as they are listed under the same address at Arthur Street, Homebush.
