Heidelberg sponsors Print Bound sustainability

HAN company director and general manager – sales, Alastair Hadley, says HAN provided sponsorship funds towards the green site project, the first sponsorship of its kind for the company.

“When I was first introduced to the Print Bound green site project two things clearly stood out, namely, the passion and commitment demonstrated by the management of the company towards a sustainable approach across their entire business. That really impressed me,” says Hadley.

“Environmental sustainability can be difficult to quantify in terms of dollar returns, particularly in the short term, however, whatever we do today will benefit us all in the long run. It is this visionary approach by the management of Print Bound that really engaged us and obviously impressed the Victorian Government as well.”

Heidelberg itself has won awards for its approach to sustainability, particularly in its native Germany where issues around power, pollution and wastage are high on the corporate agenda.

“As a major supplier we have a solid track record in working towards environmental sustainability. The reduction of energy, paper and chemical waste can only be good for future generations. Print Bound’s philosophy sits closely with our own corporate goals,” says Hadley.

“In Australia, Heidelberg’s attention to environmental issues is less about the bottom line and more about civic commitment; that’s also what Print Bound focuses on.”

One of the first to get on board with the project, Hadley says Heidelberg is keen to be involved in genuine projects such as the Print Bound green site.

“The printing industry doesn’t have a good track record on environmental issues. The steps taken by Print Bound not only look towards the future from an environmentally sustainable perspective, but also from an industry perspective. The more we can demonstrate that the printing industry is concerned with the environment in which we live and work, the greater the opportunities as we move forward.”
