Immij is set to acquire Burtons Print and Packaging next month, a deal which it says will strengthen its position in the Australian market.

Burtons was started in 1948 by graphic designer Robert Burton and currently operates in Sefton, Sydney where it provides packaging and commercial printing for blue chip clients.  

The deal comes a year after Immij brought in former Visy, Amcor and PMP exec Scott Hillberg as CEO with the task of sourcing acquisitions in new areas. The company’s last acquisition was horticultural label printer Macbird Floraprint in 2011.

The business will be rebranded as Immij Burtons, and will relocate to the Immij site at Lane Cove, NSW, in July.

Details on whether Immij will acquire Burton’s equipment and the outcome for Burtons Sefton site have not been disclosed.

Immij chairman Alistair Hill has confirmed Burtons managing director David Hawkes, production manager Gary McKewin and other key members of Burton’s team will move over to the amalgamated business. It is unknown if other Burtons staff will retain their positions.

Hill says, “The Burtons team will be a great asset to our business, with a strong cultural fit.”

Hawkes says Burtons has been seeking a potential business partner to complement its manufacture and grow with the company’s clients.

“Immij has an excellent reputation for quality and service, and is also an employer of choice within the industry,” he says. “It is a great business with a strong culture and future. Immij fits the bill in all ways.”

Immij commenced operations in 2008, it employs 150 staff across its offices and manufacturing plants in Melbourne and Sydney.
