International Print Day kicks off tomorrow

International Print Day 2016 will open its virtual doors tomorrow, October 19 in celebration of print’s global community, and promoting online conversations around the hashtag #IPD16.

The annual celebration invites advocates of print to participate in a global celebration of traditional communication, with the aim of creating boosting awareness about the print industry.

IPD is led locally by Australian patron Stephanie Gaddin, CEO of software and communications group Dolphinworx.

According to IPD16 organisers at Print Media Centr, last year the hashtag generated some 27 million timeline deliveries on Twitter during the 24-hour period.

This year, printers wanting to get involved can use the hashtags #IPD16 or #PrintSmart on their Twitter feed to connect with other print enthusiasts and join the global conversation.

“Print is a fascinating technology with a proud history and a vibrant future. Print Smart reflects our confident, creative industry’s desire to solve problems using print and share our ways of doing so,” says Deborah Corn, principal at Print Media Centr.

“We’re expecting to see printers but also designers, marketers and entrepreneurs connecting throughout the day sharing samples and stories of great print – plus ideas, suggestions and opportunities to collaborate.”

Corn says International Print Day is an opportunity for local print houses to engage with the wider print community with a hashtag that is tipped to trend globally – there are advocates leading the conversation in Australia, USA and Europe.

“In the past, a printer convinced their local mayor to declare the day International Print Day, while last year, the United States Capitol Building recognized it by sharing pictures of their printed admission tickets,” adds Corn.

“Just like with print itself, the creativity is endless. So, be as inventive as possible and let’s get print and its possibilities trending around the world.”

The collaborative online event kicks off tomorrow at 9am in Australia, and runs for a full 24 hours.
