The sixth International Print Day, which coincides with the upcoming Print2Parliament event in Canberra, is almost upon us with those in the industry asked to declare their love for print on social media on October 23.
International Print Day celebrations in Australia begin at 9am (AEDT) and 11am (NZDT) in New Zealand.
Two social media hashtags have been set up to promote the day over the 24 hours, #IPD19 and this year’s them #Print2Gether, which celebrates partnerships within the industry and all the relationships from idea to execution that enhance the creativity, quality, and vitality of print.
Deborah Corn, the founder of International Print Day and principal at the Print Media Centre, says “Participation on International Print Day has generated 123,833,356 impressions on Twitter since we began celebrating our global love for print marketing in 2014. We have seen sharing from six continents, through every time zone on this planet. I encourage everyone out there with a social media account to plan for this tremendous opportunity to tell the world about what you do, show off the amazing things you create and produce through ink and substrates, and how you collaborate with all of your partners.”
The event came into being after participants in #PrintChat came together to mastermind the mastermind the #Print2Gether hashtag; #PrintChat is a weekly Twitter chat taking place every Wednesday at 4PM ET, that brings together the best and brightest in print and marketing for a lively, informative, and fun discussion on a range of topics, with more than 1.6 billion social media impressions under its belt to date.
The second annual Print2Parliament event starts at 6.30pm next Wednesday October 23 at Parliament House in Canberra providing members of the printing industry a chance to meet up with politicians and policy makers to discuss the big issues effecting their business.
Print and Visual Communication Association chief executive officer and organiser of the Print2Parliament event Andrew Macaulay says the event will showcase the printing industry to our nation’s leaders and give them a critical insight into the industry and how critical it is to the Australian economy.
“The purpose of this event is to showcase our industry to Australia’s politicians and policy makers. We will be displaying the winning entries from the National Print Awards while advocating for greater support for our industry,” Macaulay said.
“We want our nation’s leaders to understand how critical our industry is to the Australian economy and how necessary targeted policy reform on energy, industrial relations and training is for it to flourish.
There is a print business in every federal electorate – across cities, suburbs and regions. Today the print industry employs tens of thousands of Australians and is the largest manufacturing employer in Australia. With an annual turnover of $7.4bn print is a powerful driver of our economy – a message we need to share with our political leaders.”
