Kodak ramps up speeds and opens up cheaper stocks with Prosper 6000XL for Drupa

The Prosper 6000XL ramps up speeds to 1,000 feet per minute, or the equivalent of 5,540 A4 pages, a big jump from the 5000XL, which produced up to 3,600 A4 pages per minute.

The inkjet beast offers a duty cycle of 160 million A4 pages per month.

The manufacturer has also improved the machine’s stock handling. As well as speed, one of the promised benefits the Prosper’s Stream inkjet head technology is meant to have over rival drop-on-demand inkjet is its ability to print on a wider variety of papers, including coated stocks.

The entire Prosper range can now be spec’d out with Kodak’s new Image Optimiser Station, an inline pre-treatment unit that opens the door to a wide range of coated, uncoated and glossy papers, according to the manufacturer.

Doug Edwards, Kodak’s president of digital and functional printing, said: “The power and scalability of the Prosper platform make it an ideal solution for all kinds of applications, and this new model brings lower cost, increased flexibility, and improved productivity.”

The new Prosper will be on show at Drupa, where it will lead a raft of other technology innovations at the trade show.

The Stream inkjet heads can also be found in a new version of the Prosper Imprinting System, the S30.

The systems, which can be added to offset presses to allow variable-data across long runs, have been installed on six continents over the past three years, Kodak claimed.

The new S30 lifts the top speed to 3,000 feet per minute, with a resolution of up to 600x200dpi.

A third use of the Stream technology can be seen in the new machine from book printing manufacturer Timsons, the T-Press.

On the Nexpress side, Kodak has opened up more options on the machine’s fifth unit with the possibility for gold, pearlescent, and neon effects.
