Catt says, “Printing is not the only service that MBE stores offer, but in Newtown it has become our main thrust with jobs of 250,000 impressions not uncommon. What we discovered was that constant paper jams demanded our regular attention. This slowed down the printing of jobs so that they weren’t ready on deadline and caused wastage on consumables, making the job less profitable.

“As well, we had to stop doing other work to clear the machine and reset it. On some days this would be happening after every 200 or 300 copies. We had to get a replacement.”

Catt says he looked at a number of different machines and selected the Océ 3155 on the basis of quality, reliability and support offered.

“The Océ 3155 with its CopyPress process and shorter paper path, has made a world of difference to our printing. It can process tens of thousands of impressions without a single paper jam and allows us get on with other tasks,” says Catt.

“Since we have installed it we have had only one service call and hardly any downtime with the machine. At the same time our monthly printing output is now up beyond 400,000 impressions, some which I can leave to run when the shop is closed.”

Leslie Thiess at MBE Pyrmont tells a similar story. Thiess has only had the franchise for 18 month but reports that printing is a big item for the store from the many small and mid-sized businesses in the Pyrmont area.

“Our printing equipment was giving us issues with duplexing and constant paper jams. I had spoken to Doug Catt and called Océ to trial an Océ VarioPrint 2060 which proved ideal for our needs.

“The store is currently creating about 100,000 impressions per month, but we see enormous scope for expansion with the Océ VP2060, which can easily handle 250,000 to 300,000 impressions a month even during normal working hours.
