New industry ITO in NZ

Representing the printing, packaging, media and communications industries, the new ITO will liaise with Government bodies such as the New Zealand Qualifications Authority and the Tertiary Education Commission (TEC).

PrintNZ chief executive Joan Grace said the new body is being specifically structured to ensure each sector’s unique workplace training requirements are addressed.

“Collectively, the ITO will manage the broad functions of an industry training organisation, meet Government requirements and produce marketing material,” said Ms Grace. “A second tier of operations will take responsibility for each individual sector represented by the ITO and develop industry specific qualifications and workplace training schemes. Each sector will be able to define the level of identity they wish to retain as part of the ITO and its preferred methods for workplace training options.

“Nonetheless, PrintNZ Training will continue to set qualifications and standards for the print and packaging industries, and provide a united voice to cater for the educational needs of the sector,” said Ms Grace. “Its inclusion in the new ITO, however, provides a vital link to the wider tertiary sector and connected industries, and enhances career pathways for trainees.

“I am confident that the establishment of the Communications and Media ITO and PrintNZ Training’s inclusion will assist in defining and developing the role of workplace training throughout our changing industry landscape.”

To help establish the new ITO, PrintNZ Training recently sought letters of support from members backing the re-recognition, change of name and extension of coverage.
