One becomes two for Paclam

The two companies will be called Graphica Technologies, which will be run by director Derek Wright and the other will be known as Pacific Laminations and Coatings Ltd, which will be run by the company’s other partner, John Jenkins.

The companies will continue to be accommodated in the partnership’s jointly owned adjoining buildings in Church Street, Onehunga, but all operating systems will be divided into two for the separate entities as the companies are re-branded.

Graphica Technologies will concentrate on the manufacturing side of the business, selling systems and laminating and coating machinery for export and for the local market.

Pacific Laminations and Coatings will continue to offer its specialist service to the printing industry and related trades, while seeking out new opportunities outside these markets, says John Jenkins.

Meanwhile Graphica Technologies will continue to offer a contract lamination service in the specialist heavy weight, low volume, high value work and large format finishing.

The split has been designed to allow both companies to concentrate on their core business and to explore more opportunities here and overseas.

It’s the second name change for the company which started out as Jenrite Industries (a composite of the two directors names), as a small laminating service started by the two former UEB friends 25 years ago, when laminating was not widely used or known as part of the printing process.

Growth came with the introduction of colour copiers, and Jenrite sold laminators to copy shops throughout New Zealand. The directors decided they could make their own laminating machines and in 1997 they began to export them overseas.

The export side of the business has grown alongside the laminating service the business operates and its biggest markets are now Australia and the United States where the company’s Bondmaster machines are well known.

In 2000, PacLam expanded its laminating service into UV coatings and upgraded its machinery. It also launched into offering a range of other consumable products in the large format and film markets.

John and Derek say the split is a positive move for both sides of the business which can more easily focus on their target markets if run separately.

Pacific Laminations and Coatings Ltd continues with the phone number (09)636 8354 and Graphica Technologies Ltd has a new number at (09)622 0171.
