Platypus emerges as PICA Qld’s big winner

More than 300 guests attended the night of celebration which organisers say was a fitting conclusion to what has been a tough year for the Industry in Queensland.

Neal McLary, general manager for Printing Industries QLD told Australian printer is was no surprise Platrypus took the top award on the night. He says, “Platypus always does well at these awards but Heaneys Performers in Print and Craft Inprint Brisbane also did extraordinarily well on the night.”

Susan Heaney, national president of Printing Industries extended a warm welcome to industry members and guests with a positive message about the Industry in what proved to be a fitting prelude to a successful and enjoyable evening.

The first of the award of the evening  – the Environmental Management Award – went to Screen Offset Printing, which presented by Jennie Trinder from Queensland Government’s Department of Environment and Resource Management and was accepted by David Rowe of the company.

The Printing Industries/Southbank Institute of Technology Apprentice of the Year Award 2011 was awarded to Jacob Allen from Tennyson Group. Meanwhile, the much sought after and acclaimed Category 25 for ‘An entry produced by an Apprentice’ was won by William Baptiste from GEON Australia.

McLary continues while it has been a tough year for the Queensland print industry, the awards night provided a relaxing atmosphere for printers to relax and mingle with their peers. He says, “While we did have a reduction in award entries this year, the quality of the print was still there.

“We seem to have had a lift throughout the industry in recent months so hopefully this will continue through to 2012.”
