Printers ready for Wrap Masters Victoria

Printers are gearing up for the Victorian leg of the ASGA Wrap Masters National Challenge, vying for a place in September’s final, which will feature teams from both sides of the Tasman.

Three Australian teams will take the starting grid on Thursday at event sponsor Australian Visual Solutions’ Melbourne headquarters, with a fourth team unable to make the event due to illness.

Teams will wrap an entire car with printed film as quickly as possible with a 4.5 hour time limit.

Iain Gartley, managing director of Blackburn, NSW firm Graphic Effects, says the team will be talking tactics tonight and working frantically to get ahead of the competition after seeing teams work at the recent SA competition.

He says, “We’ve got a good team that works well together. We all know each other’s strengths and weaknesses and will assign duties based on who is good at what part and make sure we’re not working over the top of each other.

“We will break down the time allowed into sections and work out what we want to achieve in that that time. Usually we do a job like this in a day or day and a half, so it will be interesting.”

Graphic Effects prints wide format on a Mimaki JV5 and a Roland DG SolJet PRO4 XR-640.

Jeremy Busch, managing director of Tasmanian challengers Signrite from Glenorchy, says his team has worked together for more than five years and the company is hoping for some good exposure if they win.

He says, “We are looking forward to testing our skills with other mainland companies. It should be a lot of fun.

“I think the plan will be to get all the panelling done and then end with all the finishing. They have to keep organised so they won’t be rushed at the end and make mistakes.”

Signrite prints wide format for Fuji Xerox’s car fleet and for small and medium businesses from photocopy to drain pipes on a Roland DG SolJet PRO3 XJ-640.

North Melbourne outfit Grafico Group managing director Damian Corney says: “It’s a wonderful opportunity to showcase our company's skills in this special area of sign and graphics and it be surely great for the vehicle wrap industry.”

The event will be held at 113 Williams Road Dandenong between 11am and 5pm and visitors are invited to come down and see some top wrap craftsmen in action.

The national champions will take home a Roland DG SolJet PRO4 XR-640, plus bragging rights, following the grand final at the Visual Impact Expo on September 12-14.
