Roland picks promotion winner

Roland DG Australia has selected the winner of its 30 Year Anniversary Buy and Win competition, which was open to customers who bought a participating Roland DG device during May and June.

To enter customers had to write in 25 words or less, why they chose Roland DG. The winning entrant had their pick between: EGX-350 Desktop Engraver, VersaLAM VL-1650TU Heat Assist Laminator, CAMM-1 GR-640 Vinyl Cutter, or the newly released LD-80 Laser Foil Decorator.

A spokesperson from Roland DG says, “After reviewing the many fantastic submissions, the winning entry came from Jock Martin at Barossa Digital in South Australia, who purchased a TrueVIS VG-640 printer cutter.”

His submission read: “If you wish to supply the best possible product to your clients, buy the best equipment. Roland fits the bill, simple as that.”

Martin chose an EGX-350 Desktop Engraver as his prize, to expand his busy signage business into new areas. Based in NSW wine region Barossa Valley, Martin says his clients include boutique wineries, and companies as large as Penfolds.

He says, “It is mainly for my existing clients. I am a small operation, a one man show. I am at the stage where I do not need or want too much more business. I am not planning on employing anyone, and there is only so much you can do.

“Barossa Digital started off as a print business only, I’m a litho printer by trade, but the way that side of the business was going with the advent of internet and people ordering cheap rubbish online, the litho printing business for small blokes took a massive hit.

“I had to go with the flow and change to survive, and get into this side of the business. Now we are all digital, focus on short run labels and signage, bigger and smaller wineries. I have Penfolds and Orlando and a few of the bigger ones on the book.

“I have a little niche here that keeps me going and keeps me comfortable.

“Because I deal with a lot of wineries, I thought there would be a market with smaller boutique wineries to engrave some glasses.

“When I decided to upgrade my VS-640 for a new printer, it was always going to be another Roland. The TrueVIS VG-640 ticked all the boxes so it was an easy choice. I could have taken the most expensive option for my prize, but I was not sure if I would have used it. The engraver will definitely add something to my business.”
