Sheetfed back in black for manroland

The travails of German press giant manroland are receding as the company turned in its first profit figure since the onset of the GFC, contributing $10m to owner Langley Holdings.

The profit came on the back of a turnover down by 10 per cent to $314m, from $346m the year before, a drop roughly in line with than the average for German press manufacturers, according to German industry association VDMA’s latest figures, which blamed a drop in orders from the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, China and India) for the fall-off.

Some 100 manroland presses were sold during the year comprising 528 units, with Australia contributing its share, manroland currently has sheetfed presses being installed at ColorPak and Hannapak.

The business strategy at manroland sheetfed is first to concentrate on its existing customers, a strategy reflected in Australioa where both Hannapak and ColorPak are long-time Roland users.

The manroland business split into two when the company went into administration in November 2011, with UK company Langley Holdings buying the sheetfed business, based in Offenbach, while a German industrial group owns the Augsburg-based webfed business.
