Showdown SGM deferred as Board reaches out

The showdown PIAA Special General Meeting slated for tomorrow has been deferred for 14 days following discussions between acting PIAA president Kieran May and Tom Eckersley, unofficial spokesperson for the Members Action Group.

ProPrint understands the SGM has not been deferred for technical reasons – while the issue of proxy voting is resolved – but because some kind of rapprochement is underway between the Board and the members of the Action Group.

The association says May came to the decision ‘following discussions’ with member action group (MAG) spokesperson Tom Eckersley.

The SGM was scheduled for tomorrow, Tuesday February 23, and was being perceived as a showdown between the almost 100 members of the Action Group and the Board, following the tumultuous events of the past two months.

However the first act of interim president Kieran May seems to have been to give everyone some breathing space following the escalating events of the past two weeks. May stepped into the role yesterday after previous president Ross Black sensationally resigned, just 16 days after taking the position.

The Board called for the SGM in a pre-emptive strike after the MAG issued a list of demands, which included the immediate resignation of CEO Jason Allen, who departed suddenly a week ago, instead of working out his notice until April 1.

Controversy surrounded the agenda of the SGM as the action group remained steadfast on discussing items that were not on the official agenda, such as having veto over the new CEO and reinstating several members, and particularly over the vote of confidence in the Board, which the MAG wanted to be a vote of no confidence.

More to come.
