Southern Colour buys pair of new Speedmaster XLs

The two highly-automated machines will be installed next year. Southern Colour saw the presses at drupa in May.

Rod Dawson, managing director, Southern Colour says, “Three years ago, we made a significant investment which allowed us to replace several machines with two Heidelberg XL machines which are currently on the floor, delivering important efficiency, while meeting our customers’ expectations for quality and turnaround at competitive prices.”

Dawson says, “In such a competitive and fast-moving market, however, you can never stand still, and our visit to drupa allowed us to see the advances Heidelberg has made in the past four years. The new XL range takes quality, speed, productivity and efficiency to a new level. This is great news for our customers and our staff.”

He says, “In short, after assessing the technology and doing the sums it became clear that the investment made good practical, commercial and financial sense.” Dawson believes with the new features the Heidelberg XL has will improve his productivity by 20 per cent and help his company cater for the growing trend towards shorter runs, while maintaining the high-end colour accuracy its clients demand.

John Kirkham, general manager sales-southern region, Heidelberg says, “These new presses feature Heidelberg’s intelligent press management system and in-built energy monitoring, which provide important benchmarking information to help business owners measure print shop performance and environmental impact, a key to maintaining a competitive edge in and increasingly demanding market.”

Kirkham says, “There is little doubt that many companies in our industry are feeling under siege and there is a lot of negativity in the trade.”

“This investment sends a clear and positive message to our staff, suppliers and to our valued customers. We are genuinely excited about our future and we know that everyone associated with Southern Colour understands this investment confirms our commitment to this industry for the long run.” Dawson concludes.
