Big day for Durst: two flagship P5s win European Digital Press Association awards

The Durst P5 TEX iSUB and P5 350 HS presses have won European Digital Press Association awards with Durst Oceania managing director Matt Ashman saying the wins recognise the continuous development of the modular platform.

The Durst P5 350 HS roll and board hybrid printer won the the Corrugated Solution category in the Industrial Solutions Print and Finishing division, while the P5 TEX iSUB won the Textile Printer Roll-to-Roll with Inline Finishing category.

Avon Graphics became the first printer in the Southern Hemisphere to install the P5 350 HS last year and Ashman said the wins recognise the commitment shown by Durst to create top solutions.

Avon Graphics chose to install the P5 350 and were among the the first in the world to do so,” Ashman told Sprinter.

“These award wins show Durst’s commitment to providing the best solutions and it is an honour that Durst’s hard work in finding these solutions has been recognised by the European Digital Press Association.”

In the European Digital Press Award (EDP) 2021 final report, the Technical Committee said the P5 350 HS fits well within the trend towards printing smaller runs of corrugated cardboard on digital presses.

“The high-speed model of the Durst P5 350 fits in well with this trend. At the same time, the design of the printer means that it can also handle other substrates well. This makes it a good starting point for service print providers who want to expand their market towards packaging,” the report says.

Of the P5 TEX iSUB, the Technical Committee commented:

“The Durst P5 TEX iSUB is not the only printer with inline finishing for printing directly on top of the textile. The IR inline fixation is very efficient. The new sublifix ink in combination with the in-house developed system makes it possible to maintain the high printing speed and a high print quality when using the inline finisher. This system brings Durst back on the front row if it comes to printing on polyester fabrics.”

Durst says the win confirms the P5 TEX iSUB as the best roll-to-roll textile printing system with an integrated finishing unit. The abbreviation iSUB stands for “inline sublimation” making it suitable for direct printing, eliminating the requirement for calendering, which results in significant quality and efficiency improvements. This printing system can also be used for transfer paper printing.

The high-performance P5 350 HS hybrid printing system for roll and board media has a printing width of up to 3.5 metres and can now assert itself as the best UV printing system for the corrugated packaging market.

With a speed of up to 710 square metres per hour and the ability to change materials quickly with multi-roll and multi-track options, the P5 350 HS makes the printing process much more efficient. It can handle corrugated materials, plus a wide range of others. It also offers the the Durst Workflow and Durst Analytics software for further productivity enhancements.

“We are delighted to receive the EDP awards, as it shows that the continuous development of our modular P5 platform is marking out a new path in the world of digital printing aimed in making production flows increasingly efficient, also thanks to our own software solutions fully integrated into the platform,” Andrea Riccardi, Head of Product Management, Durst Group said.

“At this year’s FESPA in Berlin, interested visitors can see for themselves the performance of the P5 printing systems and also expect further innovations from us.”
