Vistaprint chops Sydney staff

Vistaprint has slashed its Sydney office headcount by 60 per cent and outsourced the workload to other staff around the world.

Global company spokeswoman Sara Nash refused to say how many staff were let go, what prompted the downsize, or if any more cuts are coming.

“We have moved to a model that integrates our teams more globally as we have in other regions,” she told ProPrint.

“We have been seeing great growth in Australia, supported by our plant in Melbourne.  We continue to invest in the region and look forward to continued growth.”

Those made redundant include former ANZ and Japan vice president Paul Heath, who is now working as a consultant in the financial services industry.

Heath says no one has been hired to replace him with his roles split between staff at the American global office and those left behind in Australia.

General manager Melissa Haywood – who Heath says is the most senior person remaining in Sydney – says there have been no staff cuts at the Melbourne production plant.

The dramatic downsize follows the web-to-print giant abandoning its trade printing service earlier this year, just months after it was launched, due to lack of interest from Australian printers.
