Young print workers told to keep updating their skills

Sinnott Brothers general manager Stephen Cuthbert said the rapid evolution of technology made it essential for younger industry members to keep updating their skills.

Cuthbert said the IPMG firm had always prided itself on youth development and training, and was proud that one of its employees, Samuel Moss, had won the LIA-Heidelberg Graduate of the Year award.

He said Moss had proven his dedication by attending training courses outside work hours.

Moss, 21, specialises in retouching at the Silverwater-based business, and said he hoped to one day move in to photography and design.

He was presented with his award on 19 July by LIA president Steve Kyd and Heidelberg representative Savas Mystakidis.

Kyd told him: "We select people for their passion and where they're going… Hopefully you're going to be one of the future industry leaders and go places."

Mystakidis said Heidelberg believed in supporting the next generation of print workers.

"This is the future coming through. It's this generation that can adapt more than anyone. We look to you guys to progress through the ranks as we've seen previous winners do," he said.
